The UFC Found Marlon Vera A New Opponent After Cejudo Withdrew from UFC 292

Fight fans weren’t happy to hear about Henry Cejudo’s withdrawal from his fight against Marlon Vera at UFC 292. But, no need to fret because the promotion has found Vera a new and exciting opponent.

Continue reading to find out the details of this new match-up!

Henry Cejudo last fought Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288 and lost to “The Funkmaster.” On paper, this battle seemed incredibly intriguing, and that’s how it ultimately turned out. Early on, Cejudo had no issue obtaining a takedown, but he wasn’t able to use it effectively. Later in the round, Sterling successfully executed his own takedown, moved to Cejudo’s back, and elbowed Cejudo to seal the victory. The two players’ rivalry persisted throughout the championship stages, and the judges ultimately decided that the defense was insufficient to secure the victory.

Due to an injury to his scheduled opponent, former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo, “Chito” Vera, will now compete at UFC 292 against Pedro Munhoz. Iridium Sports Agency, Vera’s management company, confirmed the agreement of the fight on Friday.
The main event, a championship fight between champion Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley for the division, is already scheduled for the event, which takes place in Boston’s TD Garden.

At bantamweight, Font vs. Yadong and Garbrandt vs. Bautista will take place in addition to Munhoz vs. Vera. Munhoz, 36, will compete fresh off a victory over Chris Gutierrez by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 44 in April. After a string of poor performances that includes defeats to former champions Jose Aldo and Dominick Cruz and a no-contest against Sean O’Malley owing to an eye poke, he will now try to maintain the momentum.
Vera, 30, lost to Cory Sandhagen by a split decision in his most recent bout, snapping a four-fight winning run, at UFC on ESPN 43. He had previously defeated Dominick Cruz, Rob Font, Davey Grant, Frankie Edgar, and Davey Grant.

Now, the lineup looks like this:

  • Zhang Weili versus Amanda Lemos;
  • Song Yadong versus Rob Font
  • Marlon versus Pedro Munhoz Vera
  • Chris Weidman versus Brad Tavares
  • Cody Garbrandt and Mario Bautista
  • Andre Petroski versus Gerald Meerschaert
  • Karine Silva versus Maryna Moroz
  • Geoff Neal versus Ian Machado
  • Natalia Silva versus Andrea Lee
  • Aljamain Sterling versus Sean O’Malley

So, what are Vera’s prospects against his new opponent Pedro Munhoz? Who are you guys supporting in this bout on August 19? Let us know in the comments!
