According to reports, Alistair Overeem won’t fight professionally again, nor will he look as bulked up as normal. That’s because the former UFC fighter retired from combat sports after making some significant lifestyle modifications.

Overeem, 43, casually announced it on “Lovin Dubai” on June 1 during an appearance that was primarily about his health. Tuesday saw a reemergence of the interview. Overeem stated that he had actually made the decision to cease fighting and mentioned that it was no longer his area of interest. He further reflected on his 25-year journey in the sport and expressed his intention to pursue other exciting endeavors going forward.

When a picture of Overeem and Rizin FF CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara circulated on social media last month, it caused quite a commotion. Overeem appeared startlingly skinny in the image, which prompted many people to wonder if he was unwell.

It turns out that Overeem’s significant weight loss was voluntary when he met Julian VanHoven, a “special nutritionist,” and became a vegetarian. Overeem said that previously, he would eat steak at 8 a.m. each morning as part of a routine to gain muscle. Moreover, years ago, he had acknowledged having a passion for eating horse flesh. But when he linked with VanHoven, things immediately changed.

Overeem mentioned that when he had spoken to Julian, he discussed his present dilemma. He expressed his reluctance to consume steak while also desiring to eat it for the purpose of gaining muscles. As per Julian, Overeem had parasites in his body, and they had given him pills to help with cleansing. These supplements were simply seaweed, which anyone could take. Julian explained that these supplements create an unfavorable alkaline environment for the parasites, causing them to be harmed and eventually eliminated. Over time, as the parasites are eradicated, one’s preferences for food change. Overeem believed it was not his desire to consume meat but rather the influence of the parasites acting through him. However, once the parasites are eliminated, he claimed that one’s cravings diminish.
In March 2021, Overeem, a former champion of Strikeforce and DREAM, left the UFC. He returned to kickboxing with GLORY, and his most recent match was against Badr Hari in October of last year. The fight was previously Overeem’s unanimous decision win. However, it was ruled a no-contest after he failed a drug test.

He has a 47-19 professional record during his 22-year fighting career. This includes a 12-8 mark in the UFC. Brock Lesnar, Junior Dos Santos, Vitor Belfort, and Mark Hunt are among the famous opponents he has defeated.
