Daniel Cormier Elaborates Why Robbie Lawler Didn’t Make The Welterweight Mount Rushmore

Daniel Cormier mentioned Robbie Lawler was left out of the welterweight Mount Rushmore. Continue reading to learn the reason behind this exclusion!

The ex-welterweight champion Lawler fended his title twice against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit. He will join the UFC Hall of Fame fight wing this year for his matchup with MacDonald at UFC 189, which he won via fifth-round TKO. He was stumbling after losing his title to Tyron Woodley in 2016 by a first-round KO.

Woodley was featured in Cormier’s selection of the best four welterweights of all time, while Lawler was left off. During his ESPN show “DC & RC,” Cormier mentioned that there were limited welterweight champions. He stated that the division had experienced a significant number of champions with long reigns, resulting in a scarcity of welterweight champions.

According to Cormier, he considered Georges St-Pierre as the leading figure, comparing him to George Washington. He also mentioned Matt Hughes, Kamaru Usman, and Tyron Woodley. Cormier acknowledged that Woodley and Robbie Lawler had similar resumes, but he emphasized that Woodley’s victories over Lawler to become the champion, his win against Darren Till, and his successful title defenses made him a challenging champion to deal with. Cormier believed that Woodley had received no favors during his tenure as champion.

Cormier contends that Woodley’s title defense and the manner in which he defeated his opponents more convincingly than Lawler (29-16 MMA, 14-10 UFC) were more remarkable. According to Cormier, Tyron Woodley had always been fighting the best opponents and openly expressed his dissatisfaction with how the UFC treated him unfairly.

Cormier pointed out that Woodley defended his belt under less-than-ideal circumstances, particularly highlighting his fights against ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, who was considered a significant enigma in the octagon at the time. Cormier noted that while the bout between Lawler and Condit was excellent, but the selection was highly competitive. Similarly, he also praised the bout between Lawler and Rory MacDonald but mentioned the competitiveness.

Cormier viewed Lawler’s journey as a fighter who started in Strikeforce and gradually rose to the top to become a champion. However, Cormier wasn’t certain if he would include Lawler among the top four welterweights of all time. Lawler will have his final fight at UFC 290 against Niko Price. Dana White declared that Lawler would enter the arena for his final fight.

Moreover, fans from around the world will gather to witness Lawler’s last stand inside the Octagon. Lawler, famous for his fighting prowess and eternal passion for the sport, has cemented his name among the legends of MMA. On the other hand, Niko Price is a formidable contender in his own right.

So, who will win this fight? Let us know who you are rooting for in the comments!
