Sergio Pettis of Bellator Returning to 125 Division?!

If you thought you had seen the last of Sergio Pettis in the 125-pound division, you were wrong! Instead, he is still very much interested in a weight cut if it means winning the champ status. Continue reading to find out what he is planning!

Now that Bellator has established a flyweight division, present bantamweight champ Sergio Pettis is up to fight. He will face off against against featherweight champion Patricio Freire on June 16 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. This will be the co-main event for Bellator 297. Moreover, Kyoji Horiguichi will face Makoto Takahashi to determine the first flyweight title. This inaugural event will be at Bellator x Rizin 2 on July 30 at Saitama Super Arena.

Pettis had a successful UFC flyweight career. He has defeated previous multiple-time title competitor Joseph Benavidez and current 125-pound champion Brandon Moreno. While a weight cut will be challenging for Pettis, he would consider it at the chance of a good opportunity.

Pettis said that it was certainly an interesting prospect. He is up for the champion status, but the cut to 125 is a hell of a ride for everyone. As the years add on, Pettis doesn’t know if he sees himself going back down. However, if the opportunity were logical and presented itself, then his inner competitiveness and ego would help him make it.

“Pitbull,” a former lightweight and current featherweight champion, will debut in the 135-pound division against Pettis. Moreover, he will seek to capture a championship in a third-weight class. Pettis, who has experience fighting in two different weight classes, believes the extra ten pounds to lose will impact Freire.

In Pettis’ opinion, the transition is really fascinating since he has fought in the 125-pound weight class before. He personally experienced a significant difference in how he felt when he moved up to 135 pounds. The additional ten pounds made a huge impact. The other issue is that his opponent has the disadvantage of being older than he was when he transitioned between weight classes. So, there is still a question mark on how his body adjusts. Furthermore, can he maintain the same level of durability?

Moving weight classes is a tricky decision with multiple points to factor in. So, it’s up to Pettis if he wants to take the shot. Do you think moving to 125 pounds is a wise choice for him? Also, will Pitbull overcome the challenges of moving to 135?
