Justin Gaethje Disrespects the BMF Belt

Welcome back, fight fans! In this post, we’re back with more exclusive gossip from the UFC circles.
Justin Gaethje doesn’t seem interested in the “Baddest Motherfucker” title belt. Recently, he even called it stupid!
Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje are all set to face off against each other in a re-match at UFC 291. But Gaethje wasn’t going crazy for the belt like Daniel Cormier and others at UFC are.
So, why doesn’t Gaethje value the belt? And why is he fighting for it if he doesn’t think it’s worth the hype? Continue reading to find out!

The first-ever “BMF” champion Jorge Masvidal retired from MMA combat. However, the UFC brass decided to return the title. Ultimately Gaethje and Poirier were the best contenders for it. However, Gaethje is more interested in the benefits of the title. He believes that it might pave the way for a more prosperous future for himself. Also, per him, the UFC should be praised rather than criticized for the fight’s high stakes.

Gaethje gave his honest views online, saying he thought Masvidal and Nate Diaz’s fight for the championship was a stupid move. He admitted that the UFC provides an additional opportunity for competitors to win and accrue pay-per-view points. Like interim titles, the belt has value as a championship on paper. However, it comes down to being acknowledged as a champion by the UFC, leading to different remuneration.

Gaethje addressed the criticism of the idea by stating that it is the UFC’s approach of providing a long-awaited chance and expressing thanks. He acknowledged his thanks for the opportunity to battle for the distinctive and eye-catching belt. He mentioned it might be a show but eventually respected the UFC’s generosity.

Gaethje said that he was hesitant to go against Poirier at UFC 291. He confessed he wanted a three-round bout over a five-round one at UFC 292. He couldn’t resist accepting the deal since the UFC lured him with the “BMF” stakes and additional money on the line. It’s a big battle for Gaethje, who said he had only one more shot at winning the lightweight division’s championship after losing to Charles Oliveira in May 2022. That got off to a good start with a victory over Rafael Fiziev in the Fight of the Night at UFC 286. Now, he faces Poirier in his first UFC rematch.

In their initial matchup in 2018, Gaethje received a TKO from Poirier, which he wants to avenge in their upcoming bout. Gaethje recognized his mistakes in his previous battle and reflected on how much he had personally changed since then. He asserted that he knows the significance of fighting wisely in a championship contest and that the first fighter to commit an error typically loses. He resolves to avoid letting his feelings rule him this time and looks forward to a tactical conflict with his adversary.
