Can Josh Emmett Get Back In The Title Race?

Josh Emmett feels that a fight with Bryce Mitchell is gonna be his last chance to get back to the title contention. How well is Emmett prepared to get back into the title race? Is he prepared to get back into the race keeping in mind his UFC 296 win? Continue reading to find out!

In the first fight of UFC 296’s pay-per-view main card this past Saturday, Emmet destroyed Bryce Mitchell. Mitchell was knocked out cold by Emmett’s ruthless punch, which was enough to end the game with no further need for any strikes. In the UFC 296 post-fight press conference Emmett stated that he felt good about his win. He said that it was the first time in his career that he had experienced a two-fight skid and stressed the importance of returning to the winning column.

According to Emmett, the goal was to remind people of his identity. He also shared that 2023 had been a challenging year for him, facing formidable opponents in his fights. Emmett expressed his goal of fighting for the world title, emphasizing that nothing was gonna prevent him from participating in the fight that night. He showed no concern about the opponent and insisted that nothing would hinder his determination to win. Emmett was trying hard for a title shot earlier this year, having won five straight fights against notable opponents like Shane Burgos, Dan Ige, and Calvin Kattar.

But in a bout for the interim featherweight title in February, Yair Rodriguez submitted him, and in June, top contender Ilia Topuria defeated him.

Emmett is aware that he doesn’t have much time left at 38. He does, though, believe he has another title run in him and hopes to become well-known soon.

Emmett talked about his desire to return to the title fight, stating that fighting opponents who ranked lower than him presented a high risk with little reward. He talked about the importance of fighting someone who could get him back into the title contention. Emmett also said that this would be his final shot at the title. He mentioned working on various aspects of his game and returning to the strategies that initially brought him to the UFC.
