Masvidal’ s Criminal Case With Covington Comes To An End

After striking a plea agreement, Jorge Masvidal threatened Colby Covington, saying that he was going to knock the rest of his teeth out. How did the whole case come to an end? Continue reading to find out!

In exchange for the dismissal of two felony accusations of violence and criminal mischief, the former BMF champion entered a plea agreement with the state of Florida’s prosecution team on Monday, pleading guilty to a minor battery charge. The allegations were related to an incident that happened in March 2022 outside of a restaurant in Miami, where Masvidal attacked Covington shortly after Covington defeated him in a decision at UFC 272.

Masvidal told Ariel Helwani that it was over and that he would be slapping some people now. He mentioned that he had to be on extra good behavior for various reasons but implied that he wouldn’t necessarily be on bad behavior in the future. He also hinted that there were a few individuals who might be on the receiving end of his actions sooner rather than later.

Masvidal stated that despite having resolved their issues, his rivalry with Covington was ongoing. He believed that they would inevitably encounter each other at some point, whether it be in a competitive setting or elsewhere.

He expressed that he is uncertain about the timing, but a meeting between Colby and him is bound to happen. Whether it occurs in a fighting arena or some other context, it’s only a matter of time. He will need to answer for the false allegations he made against him, his legal actions, and all the difficulties he put him through.

Masvidal went on to mention that he promises the encounter to be interesting and entertaining. He is determined to dislodge the remaining artificial teeth he possesses, considering he already dislodged two of them in March 2022.

He added If they do cross paths, they’d address the situation like mature adults – that’s the only way to handle it. He doesn’t lose sleep over this individual, nor does he offer him his support or harbor any animosity. In all honesty, he couldn’t care less. However, when he does encounter him, he will be held accountable for his past remarks and for subjecting him to this legal case and its associated hassles.

Furthermore, Masvidal noted, “They confiscated my firearms, and this happened while I was in Miami. I require my firearms for personal security because the situation can become unpredictable. They seized my firearms, citing that I could not possess them while my legal case was still pending.

Masvidal was charged with second-degree felony aggravated battery, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000. The criminal mischief allegation has even worse consequences. Masvidal insisted he was innocent from the moment the incident happened until he entered a guilty plea on Monday.

Masvidal, who has hinted at a return to combat sports, retired following his defeat to Gilbert Burns at UFC 297 in April. Conversely, Covington has not engaged in combat since overcoming Masvidal in March 2022. On December 16, he will square off against UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC 296.
