Tim Simpson Gives Newest Prediction On Colby Covington’s Upcoming Fight

Leon Edward’s manager, Tim Simpson, has good news for all Colby Covington fans out there. He thinks Covington’s fight is definitely happening in the year 2023.

After his impressive victory over Kamaru Usman for the second time, welterweight champion Edwards (21-3 MMA, 13-2 UFC) is gearing up to defend his title against Covington (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC). While the exact date and location for this highly anticipated fight have yet to be officially announced, it’s clear that both fighters are champing at the bit to square off once again.

Covington, who had weighed in as a backup for the Edwards vs. Usman 3 matchup but ultimately didn’t step into the octagon, is eager for another shot at the title. Edwards’ manager, Tim Simpson, has shed some light on the potential timeline for this showdown. According to Simpson, the fight is expected to take place before the year’s end, leaving two remaining pay-per-view events in the UFC calendar to consider.

As for the likely candidates for hosting this epic battle, there are two contenders. One option is UFC 295, which is scheduled for November 11 at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York. Alternatively, UFC 296 on December 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is also in the running. Both fighters, Edwards and Covington, are reportedly in prime fighting shape, eagerly awaiting the call to step back into the octagon.

It’s worth noting that while UFC 295 already boasts a headline heavyweight title bout between champion Jon Jones and former champ Stipe Miocic, UFC 296 has yet to feature any title fights on its card. This has led to some speculation and even a claim from Covington that Jon Jones is hesitant to share the spotlight with him on the same card.

However, UFC CEO Dana White appeared to take this claim with a grain of salt when he was made aware of it during a recent news conference.

In any case, fight fans can rest assured that the clash between Edwards and Covington is on the horizon, and it’s set to be a showdown for the ages, regardless of the event chosen to host it.
