Michael Bisping Gives Major Credits To Cory Sandhagen For Major Risks vs. Umar Nurmagomedov

Michael Bisping has some high praise for Cory Sandhagen for going up against Umar Nurmagomedov.

Continue reading to know why he has gathered so much respect for his fellow fighter.

Sandhagen will face off against Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC on ABC 7, happening on August 3 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. After Merab Dvalishvili challenges UFC bantamweight champ Sean O’Malley, Michael Bisping thinks the winner between Sandhagen and Nurmagomedov will likely be the next top contender.

Bisping mentioned that Cory Sandhagen is right up there as a contender, having proven himself as deserving. However, he needs to continue fighting to firmly establish himself and earn a title shot. Bisping also emphasized that there is no one better, hungrier, or more undeniable than Umar Nurmagomedov. He pointed out that with Nurmagomedov’s last name, undefeated record, and well-rounded skills, he’s a formidable opponent. He highlighted Nurmagomedov’s Dagestani background and wrestling prowess but also noted that he excels in kickboxing. Bisping described the fight as tremendous and said that being the main event, the winner should be the next in line for Sean O’Malley.
Bisping believes both Sandhagen and Nurmagomedov have a lot on the line, but it’s Sandhagen, the No. 2 ranked UFC bantamweight, who’s taking on someone ranked eight spots lower.

Bisping mentioned that it’s a tough situation for both fighters. He explained that, on paper, both Sandhagen and Nurmagomedov are top contenders. Sandhagen has earned a title shot, especially after his dominant performance against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. Although Bisping respects ‘Chito,’ who is a friend of his, he notes that Sandhagen was clearly the superior fighter that night. He praised Sandhagen’s striking, submissions, and wrestling skills, as well as his advantageous height and reach for the division.

Bisping also pointed out that Sandhagen has defeated some great competitors and is now facing an undefeated Dagestani fighter with a lot of hype and a notable last name. He expressed sympathy for Sandhagen, acknowledging the risk he’s taking, but also commended him for his willingness to face Nurmagomedov. Bisping called it a sensational fight and gave credit to Sandhagen for his courage.

What do you think about Sandhagen taking such a high-risk fight against an undefeated Nurmagomedov, despite already being in line for a title shot? Does this decision show more about his character and confidence, or is it a strategic mistake? Comment below to let us know!
