Sean O’Malley’s First Title Defense Against Marlon Vera

UFC champion Sean O’Malley acknowledges that the news of a Marlon Vera rematch surprises him. Did Vera deserve this rematch? Why did this rematch happen in the first place? Continue reading to find out!

At the UFC 299 main event on March 9 at the Kaseya Centre in Miami, bantamweight champion O’Malley attempted to even the score with Vera.

In August 2020, Vera submitted O’Malley via first-round TKO after O’Malley suffered a leg injury with a Vera leg kick. “The Suga Show” believes that O’Malley’s only career loss came from “Chito,” which was an isolated incident.

O’Malley expressed surprise in an interview with Helen Yee, stating that he honestly didn’t anticipate the situation unfolding as it did. He doubted whether his opponent deserved the title shot following their performance against Pedro Munhoz. Despite this, O’Malley decided it was time to face his opponent and expressed excitement about the upcoming match.

O’Malley believes that the biggest hype is coming from their rematch, even though other competitors might be more deserving of a title opportunity than Vera.

O’Malley stated that he believed the upcoming fight was the most significant one in the division. He emphasized its importance, referencing their previous encounter. O’Malley asserted his undefeated status, contrasting it with his opponent’s claim of victory.

Vera’s professional mixed martial arts career has never ended in defeat. O’Malley is sure he’ll deliver a masterclass, but he won’t guarantee a stoppage victory.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming rematch between these two fighters? Do you even agree with it happening in the first place? Do let us know about your thoughts in the comment section!
