Holloway Forever Ready to Fight Conor McGregor

Max Holloway faced off against Conor McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) in a featherweight clash at UFC Fight Night 26 back in August 2013, where he experienced a unanimous decision loss to the Irish superstar.

Since that encounter, the two fighters have had no subsequent meeting. McGregor, recovering from an injury, is nearing his comeback to the octagon after a hiatus since July 2021. However, Holloway remains open to a potential rematch with Conor McGregor.

Holloway mentioned to ESPN that Conor McGregor chooses his opponents, and he consistently finds himself on McGregor’s list of potential opponents. He speculated that McGregor might feel a certain level of frustration because Holloway was the only fighter in the featherweight division that McGregor couldn’t finish. Despite this, Holloway expressed respect for McGregor and welcomed his return to the sport, believing it would be beneficial for the entire industry.

Regarding potential opponents for McGregor’s return, Holloway acknowledged the speculation about Michael Chandler but emphasized that McGregor’s decisions are unpredictable. Holloway expressed his readiness to face McGregor if the opportunity arises, emphasizing that talks about potential matchups are ongoing until they materialize into an actual walk to the octagon.

Holloway breezed through McGregor’s pre-fight interview with UFC Arabia before McGregor’s rematch with Dustin Poirier in January 2021. This led to a lively response from McGregor, who stated, “he’s in the pipeline for sure, me and Max will do it again.”
Despite the exchange, Holloway maintains a positive outlook, believing that there is a possibility of securing a rematch with McGregor in the future.

Holloway mentioned that he is on the shortlist for the Conor fight, expressing confidence that the fight is likely to happen. He believes it’s a topic of ongoing discussion until both fighters retire. The expectation is that the fight will take place in the future, especially with Conor McGregor’s return to the scene.
