Strickland Believes He Deserves The Title Shot Now!

Sean Strickland has given his sweat and blood to the UFC. Now, it’s time for payback. He states that given his recent achievements, the UFC should give him a crack at the championship. Continue reading to learn the details!

In the main event of the card’s UFC on ESPN 47 broadcast on Saturday, middleweight fighter Strickland beat Abus Magomedov in Round 2. Although Strickland was a strong contender, Magomedov was unranked, participating in only his second UFC fight. Moreover, he had a unanimous decision victory over rising French boxer Nassourdine Imavov in January.

Strickland stated at a post-fight news conference that he is willing to take on risks for little payoff in order to have another shot at UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. He expressed a strong desire for a title shot. He mentioned that it was necessary and said, “You guys, it needs to happen.” He also pointed out that Izzy keeps repeating the same thing. Also, the UFC is trying to bring in Abus to the middleweight division, thinking he might defeat Strickland. Strickland didn’t believe that and confidently stated, “Wait until you see what happens.” He then reminded fans of the Frenchie he sent home.

Additionally, Strickland brought up a previous fight where he faced the fighter that the UFC was pushing as their last rising star. He mentioned taking the fight on just three days’ notice and enduring a grueling five-round battle, which he won every round of. He felt that he had paid his dues and deserved the championship. Although Adesanya doesn’t presently have a scheduled fight, many supporters and media members anticipate his comeback on Sept. 9 at UFC 293, taking place in Sydney, Australia.

His next opponent isn’t confirmed yet, but a crucial matchup between Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 290 on Saturday in Las Vegas may make that decision.
In Strickland’s opinion, Whittaker, a previous champion and multiple title contender, has a better chance of winning than Du Plessis, who never contested a UFC championship.

Strickland expressed his confidence, stating he was “one hundred percent” certain he would be next in line. He mentioned that even if Dricus won against Whittaker, he would still accept it, saying he was a good sport.

So, what do you think of his argument? Should he get the shot or not? Let us know what you think in the comments!
