Alexander Volkanovski’s Arm Surgery Will Keep the Fighter Out Of The Octagon For Six Weeks!

Unfortunately for fight fans, UFC champ Alex Volkanovski won’t be seen inside the octagon for over a month. Instead, he will be spending this time in rehabilitation due to his recent arm surgery.

Continue reading to find out how Volk ended up with a damaged limb and his feelings about staying away from fighting due to it!

The UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, underwent a surgical procedure on his left arm on Monday. After the surgical procedure, he will need to undergo a six-week rehabilitation period before he can return to full contact training. This information has been confirmed by Volkanovski’s management and further supported by a report from Ariel Helwani. Additionally, the fighter shared a video on his Instagram Stories, revealing his bandaged arm.

This development was not unexpected, as Volkanovski had openly discussed the need for minor surgery during the post-fight press conference after his recent TKO victory against Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290 earlier this month. Volkanovski mentioned that he would be back as soon as possible and reassured that the surgery would be quick. He stated that he needed to address a certain issue but would continue training despite it. Volkanovski disclosed that he had previously broken his hand during “International Fight Week” but remained determined to fight in Abu Dhabi against Islam or Charles Oliveira. He emphasized that the current situation was unrelated to a broken bone and expressed his desire to stay active in the sport.

The 34-year-old expressed his keen interest in having a rematch with UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. They previously faced off in the main event of UFC 284 in Australia back in February, with Makhachev emerging victorious through a closely contested unanimous decision. Both fighters showcased their strengths, with Volkanovski successfully countering Makhachev’s grappling and the latter mastering the striking game.

The match was dramatic and full of action throughout all five rounds, with momentum shifting between the two fighters. Round 2 was a crucial swing round, and Round 4 sparked debates due to contrasting scoring criteria. In the final round, Volkanovski showcased determination, but Makhachev still retained his title.

Furthermore, UFC president Dana White has indicated his willingness to arrange the rematch. Additionally, Makhachev is scheduled to defend his title on October 24 in the main event of UFC 294, taking place in Abu Dhabi. As of now, no official opponent has been announced for him. So, the possibility of Volkanovski being ready and willing to fight on that date is still uncertain, as his rehabilitation is projected to be completed by the end of August.

So, are you eagerly awaiting Volk vs. Makachaev 2? Also, who are you rooting for if the fight happens? Let us know in the comments!
