46-Year-Old Yoel Romero Wants To Stay In The Octagon Till 50!

They say age is just a number, and the “soldier of god” has proven that. Yoel Romero is currently one of the most experienced fighters and has no plans to retire.

Doesn’t Romero want to go home and rest at this age? What is the real reason for him wanting to stay in the game till he dives into his 50s? Continue reading to find out!

After reaching their mid 40’s, most of the MMA fighters either retire or aren’t as good as they were before. Romero, on the other hand, is an odd fellow. The highly renowned champion Vadim Nemkov will face this distinguished Cuban wrestler in one of the biggest matches of his career in the light heavyweight division. The match is this Friday’s Bellator 297 main event at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena.

It’s common in sports for experienced athletes to gain something significant to maintain a record before quitting. This is exactly what Amanda Nunes did after she retired as a two-division UFC champion last Saturday at UFC 289. Accordingly, this would be a great time to leap into that opportunity. Romero acknowledges that journey but tells his supporters that they will see more of him, even if he wins the Bellator championship.

When questioned if he would willingly walk away as the champion, he said there was zero possibility of that happening any time soon. Furthermore, he stated that there was no chance, absolutely none, that such a thought even crossed his mind. According to him, he had five additional years in the sport, and that was what he celebrated. He expressed his intention to continue fighting until the age of 52, emphasizing that it was his primary objective.

The “Soldier of God” surely has ambition for this sport and doesn’t want to give up on his dream. In his previous discussions, he expressed his desire to retire at 52, much as boxer Bernard Hopkins did. And that goal remains the same now.

Romero’s (15-6 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) title bout is, in many ways, a tale of redemption. “The Soldier of God” might be the competitor who came the closest to becoming the UFC champion without really taking home the trophy. Romero competed in UFC championships four times. He was defeated by Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya three times in contentious rulings. He defeated Luke Rockhold to win the other fight, which was for the interim UFC middleweight title. However, he was not able to take home the trophy because he was two pounds overweight.

For Romero to win the championship status for which he longed, he needs to win the upcoming fight with Nemkov(16-2 MMA, 8-0 BMMA).

Is Romero a power-hungry man, or is he afraid of being left in the darkness after he retires? Reveal your thoughts in the comment section!
