Randy Couture Thinks A UFC vs. PFL Cross-over Is A Great Idea

A UFC vs. PFL cross-over would be a dream come true for fans. But Randy Couture thinks they should make it real! Per Couture, the Ngannou vs. Jones bout is a genius way of entertaining fans of both franchises.

Francis Ngannou recently signed with PFL, which led to a rough exchange between him and ex-boss Dana White. Also, Jon Jones’ name came up during this. Considering this, it seems unlikely that Dana would arrange a cross-over. However, we all remember when Ngannou tweeted this a few days ago, so he isn’t opposed to the idea.

And now Randy Couture has defined a path for this could-be fight. So, keep reading to find out what he says.

While the initial idea has value, executing this event could be challenging. Recently, Couture analyzed the situation and highlighted the significant challenges and possibilities.
Since both organizations are on ESPN, there won’t be a network and exposure issue. On the other hand, the restrictive agreements and the sports environment could be hindering.

Events from the PFL and the UFC are broadcast live on ESPN networks and streamed on ESPN+. Regarding that element of the talks for a significant heavyweight matchup like Jones vs. Ngannou, the two organizations would have no issues. It would be up to Dana White and the team to reach an agreement with the PFL to ensure that it happens. However, the UFC isn’t interested in sharing its banner regarding promoting fights because it knows its position in the market.

You can think of the UFC as a spoilt child that doesn’t like sharing the limelight. Also, talks between the two sides fell while Fedor Emelianenko was at the peak of his career as a heavyweight. The reason was simple; the UFC refused to cooperate with Emelianenko’s promotion. They have consistently demonstrated that if it means sharing part of the promotional focus, they will decline to promote a significant heavyweight match.

Couture shared his opinions on this event as well. He said the Fedor match would have occurred if the UFC and M-1 Global agreed to a co-promotion. He also added that the two agencies had even resolved the financial aspects. However, the UFC wasn’t interested when it came to co-promotion talks.

Moreover, Jon Jones and Dana White are in attack mode against Ngannou right now.

However, the new PFL fighter is ready to fight Jones. The PFL would also pursue this event, but convincing the boss men at UFC would require a big deal. Couture also added that PFL doesn’t have an ego issue. Additionally, this would be a great opportunity considering their pay-per-view model getting ready to roll out.

What would you think of this bout if it ever reached the octagon? Also, who do you think would dominate between Ngannou and Jones? Let us know in the comments!
